BLOOMING BOTANY
Blooming Botany was founded by me, Alison, as a Horticultural Consultancy and Design Practice. I help homeowners create and sustain gardens that are both beautiful and full of biodiversity, using thoughtful garden and planting design, with expert horticultural advice and Garden Mentoring. Blooming Botany has helped hundreds of people fall back in love with their gardens since 2018.

ALISON QUANTRELL (MCIHort)

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture based in Oxfordshire with over 20 years’ professional experience in practical horticulture and garden design. Since beginning my career in 2003, I have developed a strong commitment to sustainable design, responsible plant selection, and the long-term health of gardens.
Gardens designed with nature in mind are easier to care for, more rewarding to live with, and better for the environment. My approach balances creativity with ecological awareness, ensuring gardens thrive now and into the future.

Following on from my degree in Biology from Imperial College, I began my horticultural career with the National Trust, where I worked with formal gardens, and historic borders. In 2006, I joined the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, where I worked until 2018, refining my expertise in plant management, sustainable garden practice, and the redesign and implementation of high-profile public and historic garden spaces. My role included devising and delivering public education courses, mentoring trainee horticulturists, and contributing to international conservation projects with other academic institutions.

Following formal training in both Garden and Sustainable Design at London College of Garden Design, based at Kew, I established Blooming Botany to meet the desire for homeowners to feel ownership and make environmentally positive changes to their gardens.
Today, I dedicate my time to sustainable design and horticultural consultancy through Blooming Botany. I work closely with my clients to create beautiful outdoor spaces that celebrate plants, enhance biodiversity, and respect the natural environment. Every project is rooted in careful planning, responsible plant choice, and a commitment to sustainability. This results in gardens that my clients can feel proud of and enjoy for years to come.
